Counselor and Psychotherapist

With her warm personality and gentle demeanour, Esther takes on a collaborative journey with her clients to explore their concerns and help them find peace, meaning, or resolution in their personal and professional lives.

While starting therapy can be daunting for some, Esther is known for her patience and ability to put clients at ease right from the first meeting. She also places emphasis on distilling complex or abstract psychological concepts, making it clear, relevant and practical for her clients. She often goes beyond enabling clients to reduce their symptoms and improve their daily functioning; more importantly she supports them in uncovering and addressing the root causes of their challenges.

Esther’s main areas of practice cover anxiety, trauma, depression, grief,

relationships and intimacy issues. She also provides career counselling.

Esther offers therapy in English and Mandarin for individuals and couples. She is available for face-to-face sessions at the Raffles Place and Science Park branches, online sessions, as well as walk-and-talk therapy out in the nature.

Biography

A Master of Counselling graduate from Monash University, Esther uses evidence- based therapeutic modalities to cater to clients’ unique issues, challenges, and preferences. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Emotional Efficacy Therapy, Narrative Therapy, as well as attachment-based frameworks for building strong therapeutic alliances as a vehicle for change. Where appropriate, she incorporates imagery-mediation and inner-child experiential work to help clients gain deeper insights that facilitate healing.

Leveraging her two decades of senior leadership roles in corporate communications, government relations and crisis media training in multinational corporations, Esther also provides career counselling. In addition, she has extensive employee engagement experience, having coached, mentored and motivated staff across diverse nationalities, levels and functions.

In the area of career counselling, Esther has worked with professionals from law, maritime, aviation, banking, and technology, helping them develop general career resilience or acceleration strategies, or overcome specific challenges such as discrimination at work, imposter syndrome or perfectionism.

Having travelled widely and led publicity campaigns across Asia Pacific, Europe, America, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent means that she is well practiced in navigating cultural diversity and sensitivity concerns when counselling clients. The need to balance her fast-paced career with raising two children has also given her first-hand experience and empathy for those striving to juggle life’s conflicting priorities.

In addition to her counselling work, Esther volunteers with two community service organisations under the Singapore National Council of Social Service. She is currently a member of the advisory committee for fundraising at NuLife Care & Counselling and is a consulting mentor at Shine Children & Youth Services.

When not providing therapy or brand consulting, Esther chills out with Pilates, high-intensity training, dancing, dog-training, reading, and collecting shoes. She is fluent in English and Mandarin, and can manage pleasantries in Danish.

Testimonials

"Esther is intelligent, kind, caring, considerate and nuanced, which is everything one might want from a therapist. She takes pains to meet me where I am at and to see things from my perspective, even if my perspective may be a little unconventional. She helps in filtering the noise from the outside world and boiling things down to help me see what matters and what I should be dedicating my limited resources to so as to maximise my daily quality of life. In a stressful world which constantly incentivises me to put aside my own mental wellbeing for corporate profits, my sessions with her remind me of my inherent worth outside of the exploitative capitalist construct and teaches me to prioritise self-love and inner-peace."  -Lawyer

"Esther is great. She goes above and beyond her role as a therapist in the sense that she cares about her clients deeply and feels their pain as though they were her own. She may not always get it right but she approaches differences with curiosity and is more than willing to adapt her methods to suit the client’s personality. Her unconditional acceptance and special brand of sass makes therapy seem like you’re confiding in a close friend who gives you her fullest attention while also giving you facts backed by research about your situation."   -Z (Shipping)

"Esther naturally makes me feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and worries. And I feel it is because she can create a warm and genuine atmosphere, reflecting her character. She is thoughtful and very insightful, there were many moments where I had my views broadened by her gentle guidance. It has been a great journey, looking back on where I started and where I am now. I am so thankful Esther is my counselor. " - CFO
