An Integrative Approach
Embodied Practice
Decades of training in internal martial arts and energy practices cultivate presence, relaxation under pressure, and the ability to remain open rather than contract in the face of challenge.
Psychological Insight
Professional training in counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, and depth-oriented psychological approaches supports self-understanding and emotional integration.
Contemplative Traditions
Long-standing exploration of meditation and contemplative disciplines drawn from Buddhism, Daoism, and Western contemplative traditions informs a reflective and grounded approach to inner development.
Across these traditions the emphasis remains the same: cultivating the awareness and presence that allow us to meet life more consciously.
Together these perspectives support a simple but profound aim: to help people develop the capacity to meet life more directly, with greater awareness and inner stability.
Lineage and Practice
Jason’s work is also shaped by the teachers and traditions that have informed his development over many years. His Tai Chi training follows the Heaven-Man-Earth lineage taught by Sifu Adam Mizner, which emphasises internal development through direct experience, relaxed structural alignment, and the cultivation of natural power rather than force.
In the same way that psychotherapy and contemplative traditions are passed from teacher to student, internal arts are learned through long-term practice, guidance, and embodied understanding.
Jason has been engaged in martial arts and internal cultivation practices for more than three decades, and continues to train and deepen his own practice as part of this ongoing path of development.
The Discipline of Practice
Many wellness approaches promise relaxation or temporary relief. While these practices can certainly bring calm and balance, their deeper purpose is something more meaningful.
Authentic cultivation practices invite us to become more present with our experience rather than withdrawing from it. Over time this develops greater space, resilience, and the ability to remain open in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.
Over time, the work becomes less about escaping discomfort and more about developing the capacity to remain open to life as it unfolds.
In traditional training it is often said that the purpose of practice is not to escape life, but to develop the capacity to meet it more fully.
This work therefore tends to resonate most strongly with individuals who are genuinely curious about their own growth and are willing to explore themselves with honesty and patience.
The intention is not simply short-term relief, but gradually developing the capacity to live with greater clarity, steadiness, and self-authority.
When This Work May Be Helpful
People often find themselves drawn to this work at moments when they sense that something in their life is asking for deeper attention.
You may feel curious about exploring these practices if you notice that you are:
· Feeling mentally busy or disconnected from your body
· Looking for a more reflective approach to wellbeing and personal development
· Interested in Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation, or contemplative practice
· Wanting to cultivate greater calm, clarity, and grounded presence
· Sensing that personal growth may require meeting life more directly rather than avoiding its challenges
· Functioning well externally but sensing there may be deeper layers of personal development to explore
These practices are not about perfection or performance. They are about gradually developing the capacity to remain present, open, and responsive to life as it unfolds.
Beginning the Journey
Those interested in exploring this work begin with a 90-minute Cultivation Foundations Session.
This introductory session offers a practical introduction to the principles and practices that underpin Jason’s approach. Depending on your interests and experience, it may include:
· Taiji or Qigong movement practices
· Breath and awareness training
· Meditation and mindfulness foundations
· Guided awareness or reflective dialogue
The intention of this session is to explore what practices may best support you at this stage of your development.
Where appropriate, Jason may then suggest an individualised cultivation pathway, which may include ongoing individual sessions or small group practice.
Background
· Professional counselling and coaching practice
· Senior leadership roles within international organisations
· Over three decades of martial arts and internal energy arts training
· Training in bodywork disciplines including Swedish massage and Japanese Shiatsu
While bodywork sessions are not currently offered, this training continues to inform his understanding of the body as a powerful gateway for emotional and psychological transformation.
A Quiet Invitation to Practice
The practices Jason shares are not quick techniques for relaxation or escape. They are part of long-standing traditions of training that cultivate awareness, stability, and resilience through consistent practice over time.
Like any meaningful discipline, the benefits emerge gradually. By engaging the body, breath, and attention in deliberate ways, these practices create the conditions through which greater clarity, steadiness, and personal transformation can unfold.
These traditions endure not because they are easy, but because generations of practitioners have found that sincere practice gradually changes how we meet ourselves and the world.
For those who feel curious about this path of development, the first step is simply to begin.
